Description:

The “CénitS-CPD: Resilient Datacenter” project aims to reinforce, expand, and enhance the Data Processing Center (DPC) managed by the Extremadura Center for Research, Technological Innovation, and Supercomputing (CénitS), the main instrument of the Extremadura Public Foundation for Computing and Advanced Technologies (COMPUTAEX), where all the IT and communications tools available to CénitS will be consolidated, including the LUSITANIA, LUSITANIA II, and LUSITANIA III supercomputers.

The proposal is to equip the CénitS-CPD data center with the necessary infrastructure to reinforce the supercomputing equipment already managed by CénitS with the expected guarantees of high availability, security, reliability, access speed, and energy efficiency, as well as to expand its connectivity and storage capacity. In order for the data center to be able to operate with the quality of service guarantees that users of computing resources deserve, it is necessary to have a high-quality and stable power supply; a reliable, high-capacity data network; an effective and efficient cooling system; adequate security measures; sufficient space to allow for future development and decision-making; and the set of technical characteristics that all data centers dedicated to supercomputing must meet.

The aim is to strengthen and enhance the DPC by providing the security, connectivity, and storage resilience that users demand. With the infrastructure acquired in this project, the aim is to contribute directly to the progress of scientific and technical research for all CénitS-CPD users and, indirectly, to society as a whole.

Objectives:

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Improve firewalling mechanisms and strengthen security policies.
  • Update network electronics and improve connectivity.
  • Increase storage capacity and provide data redundancy.
